Clear braces, also known as ceramic braces, are popular among teens and adults who need orthodontic treatment but don’t want to wear traditional metal braces. Clear braces provide the same kind of efficiency in moving teeth, but are less noticeable than their metal counterparts.
How Do Clear Braces Work?
Braces work by applying gentle, continuous force to move teeth into position. Although it takes time, there is a lot going on behind the scenes. Cells within your mouth are activated to undergo healthy bone turnover. This allows your teeth to gently and gradually move to a new position in the bone. Dr. Odhner is an absolute expert in the intricacies of tooth movement and development, so that every step taken throughout your treatment process is done with correction and comfort in mind.
What Happens at My Appointments After I Get Clear Braces?
At each appointment, new wires are placed into the brackets. These wires are specifically designed to create the forces needed to move teeth into their proper positions. If you’d like to learn more about the individual parts in your braces, please click here.
Every six weeks or so, your braces will be adjusted. This is also known as tightening, although no actual tightening occurs. What happens instead is that the previous wire is removed and a new, slightly stronger wire put in its place.
How Much Do Clear Braces Cost?
Due to the specialty materials and manufacturing process of ceramic brackets, there is a slightly higher cost for clear braces but it is worth it for those that want to be more discreet about their orthodontic treatment.
